Bliss { weekending }

It has been a glorious weekend.

First we had warmth, real warmth which means rolled up jeans and clogs sans socks, coats overkill.  January?  We trekked to our favorite Thai restaurant where we dined at a floor table, kneeling on soft cushions.  Eric and I clinked Sapporo bottles over plates of pad thai and bowls of fragrant curry, and watched in awe as the littles devoured skewers of chicken sate, peanut sauce and cucumber salad.

Warm and full, we made our way back home and collapsed in a blissed out state of mind.  Food, family, sunny warm January days...

Our new Saturday morning ritual is crepes.  Friends, I will fess up:  I don't make them from scratch.  No!  Ikea - frozen - buy bags at a time.  Yes!  Crepes are not difficult to make but these are so good and with no funky ingredients, a flash in the microwave, slathered with our favorite toppings, I'm quite smitten.  With the crepes and the food market at Ikea (okay, all of Ikea).

Saturday afternoon, the littles settled down for naps and quiet time with Eric while I slipped out of the house solo.  I wandered around one of my favorite Denver neighborhoods - the sky no longer blue but grey and heavy with snow - until swirls of fluffy flakes chased me to the car.  My bag heavy with artisanal cheese and locally made cupcakes, my spirit relaxed and light, I went home.

Now it is Sunday.  Fresh snow and another brilliant blue sky abound.  I've rolled two batches of these out of the kitchen this morning (from scratch!).  I fished my reggae collection out of the basement and finally loaded my iPod with what has been supremely lacking - the voice of Bob.  Continuously today, I've been dancing around the house while I clean and rearrange furniture.  Little glimpses here and there catch boys' eyes starring at me, smiling.  So many things I want them to know about me...

It's a new week...!

:::

a note about the muffins:  I did not use shortening and I made my own buttermilk using 1 tablespoon lemon juice in a cup of milk - let sit five minutes.  Do make the vanilla butter, it's divine.  I used  a stick of butter and 2 teaspoons vanilla paste.

Beautiful words. Olive dances herself around her bedroom to Bob, sings "Don't Rock My Boat." It seems reggae was dormant around here for a while, too. So glad it's back. Such happy music for grey days. The restaurant sounds perfect. I want crepes so badly now; perfect Saturday eats.
Sounds perfect, although unseasonable warm.

From short-sleeves to big snowflakes? Denver weather is great. I think I'll try the vanilla butter and muffins this week.
