About

Hello and Welcome to Mama May I!

I'm Katie - the one who logs in and feeds this space with stories, photographs, and recipes.  I started this blog in the spring of 2007, my belly a ripe watermelon - anxiously waiting to meet my babe.  At the time I thought it would be a great way to share photographs and snippets with family and friends about our new family of three.  And for the first couple of years that's exactly what I did.  But as the years have passed I've noticed a gradual change taking form here -Growth.  Now we are a family of four. I still use this space to record daily snippets, but I have also started using this space to write more.  And, since having children, I've taken on another passion that is thriving inside of me, begging to be fed daily - photography.

It is here, on this blog, that I am the keeper of my family's stories and mine.  It is here that I share the photographs I take.  And because I also love food - love to eat, and garden, you'll find recipes and gardening notes too.

The two little ones you always see here are Theo and Sully.  Recently I added LinkWithin to this site which pulls up older posts at the end of each new post.  With so many new visitors to the blog, I've received a handful of emails about what kind of helmet Theo is wearing and why in my older posts?  The short story is this:  Theo was diagnosed with a condition called Sagittal Craniosynostosis at four months old.  At 10 months he had surgery in San Antonio, Texas by Dr. David Jimenez (neurosurgeon) and Dr. Constance Barone (craniofacial surgeon).  A portion of his skull was removed to allow his head shape to grow properly as well as eliminate any potential risks of intracranial pressure.  That's where the helmet comes in.  He wore a helmet for protection as well as to reshape his head from 10 months until 2 years old.  His story is being worked on by my husband and will be added as a page here soon.

Why do I blog?  I do it because I love having a creative outlet.  I also do it because the blogosphere is simply amazing.  I've grown friendships on this blog over the trials and triumphs of mamahood, photography, and food.  I read others' blogs and leave them feeling inspired to do more, be more.  And it is my wish that after visiting this blog you leave with the same feeling.

Love & Light,
Katie

That picture of you and your boys is divine. It speaks of everything that is golden and precious in motherhood,
